Our Mothers are just wonderful. A day that began as a visit of a birth center resulted in an actual birth for this second-time mom.
“When she was told she was 5 centimeters dilated, and still not in labor, she was given the choice to stay and see if they could try and move things along for her as naturally as they could,” her birth photographer, Jessica Thomas of Under My Heart Birth, explained to BabyCenter.
Because she lived about an hour away, the mama decided to stay with her toddler, although according to a blog post, Jessica says she hadn’t exactly planned on including the child in her second birth.
Her husband arrived shortly after.
“They first tried the breast pump, but it wasn’t giving them regular contractions,” Jessica explained, adding, “They decided to just go for it and have her water broken.”
As her labor progressed, Jessica told BabyCenter, “Her daughter was having a great time! She wanted to be right with mom and get in the tub with her. She was so cute.”
Then, after the tub, the little girl wanted to nurse. “Mother could have sent her away, but instead let her nurse and comfort her while in hard labor at that point.”
It turned out she was only about 30 minutes away from delivering!
“After nursing mother basically got on her hands and knees and pushed the baby out in a few contractions.”
“Both their girls nursed after birth and finally their oldest fell asleep,” Jessica recounted.
Jessica also says ultimately she loved this birth “because there was such fun and laughter and joy while in labor.”
As a mom who is about to deliver a fourth baby, I find this very inspiring! Indeed from my experience, labor and birth can be joyful and painful simultaneously.
Also, I’m so impressed by this mother, who was able to meet the needs of her older child even during one of the most trying moments in her life! You go, mama!
